community focus
edge abstract has deep concern for the community that it serves and supports its branch offices. We are committed to helping those communities through sponsorships in local sports teams, scholarships of student/athletes and fundraising for charitable and social groups. Here are some of those groups;
Cheeseburger for Charity
A brainchild of edge abstract and Lynx Computer Technologies, Cheeseburgers was created to do one main thing: raise money for charitable causes within the area these two companies serve; giving back to the community. Now in its third year of existence, Cheeseburgers has already raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society and Baseballtown Charities. Each year the two groups get together and find the one or two causes to sponsor. Cheeseburgers itself is a huge event hosted at Casa Grande Restaurant in Spring Twp, PA. Somewhere between 700 and 1000 people show up every year to see "Parrotbeach," a Jimmy Buffet Tribute band with a huge following, and eat cheeseburgers. Money is raised through the purchase of backstage passes, good for one cheeseburger and french-fried potatoes and silent and live auctions. One lucky winner has even been flown to Miami to see Jimmy Buffet himself live in concert. To steal McDonald's old phrase, it's a night of food, folks and fun. Usually held near the end of March and the beginning of April, to coincide with the NCAA Basketball tournament, it's not to be missed.
Inquire with us or Lynx as to how you can help volunteer time, effort or money to this great and fun cause. Contact us to buy a Cheeseburger for Charity lapel pin; all proceeds go to charity.
American Cancer Society - Relay For Life
The second weekend in May in little old Lebanon, Pennsylvania the entire community surrounding the Lebanon area gets together and raises tons of money, lots of pride and more hope than one would ever expect from this small community. Despite the small size, they have raised over 1/2 million dollars for the American Cancer Society last year, ranking them in the top 25 communities in the country for ACS fundraising per capita.
edge abstract was a millennium sponsor to the event for the last two years and its staff and team of volunteers has helped make the event a huge success. Aside from the Lebanon community, edge has fielded a team in the Berks County region as well and donated thousands through Cheeseburgers for Charity and on its own. There isn't a dry eye in the house during the luminary ceremony and everyone attending has fun.
It's a 24-hour marathon that results in a giant hug toward those battling cancer. See the Relay for Life web site for more details.
Cocalico High School Wrestling Scholarship
In Lancaster County, there's a great program run by an old friend and a super group of parent supporters, known as the Cocalico High School Wrestling Team and Boosters. The boosters have supported edge abstract through their patronage by refinance and sales transactions. edge has supported the high school wrestler that best exemplifies our message. We aren't the biggest or richest company doing real estate closings but we challenge you to find a better one. Likewise, the wrestler may not have won every match, may not be the most talented but he or she utilizes their talent and determination to the best of their ability while remaining true to the most important things about high school, grades.
It's a tough combination, but that's the reason for the scholarship; wrestlers are a tough breed and handle lots of adversity under pressure. The $500 scholarship is presented to that student/athlete as picked by the coach and leader of this mighty group, David Johnson. Kevin Wickel of Denver, PA was the 2005 recipient of the award and will be attending Penn State University.
The EDGE Girls High School Senior Game
In 2005 edge abstract was asked by the Berks County Soccer Coaches Association to sponsor an annual event that focuses on the Berks County Girls Senior Soccer Players in an All-Star Game format that pits the Section I & II teams against the Section III & IV teams. The girls play a friendly but focused game in the true meaning of sportsmanship striving for the Crystal Soccer Ball award going to the Player of the Game as picked by the coaches. A senior from Gov. Mifflin won the 1st award in 2005.
The girls have a post-game banquet at Casa Grande Restaurant, where the Crystal Soccer Ball is presented and they share one last bit of soccer camaraderie before going off to college. Approximately 40 seniors played in the 2005 game.
Aside from these great and fun community events edge abstract has also sponsored several sporting and community groups as a means of giving back to our local communities:
| Schuylkill Wellness, Schuylkill County | Schuylkill Haven Jaycees | |
| Annville-Cleona Wrestling Program, Annville | Berks Soccer Academy | |
| Kingfish Water Polo, Berks County | Girl Scout Troops, Berks County | |
| Spring Ridge Elementary School, Spring Twp. | Wilson High Girls & Boys Soccer | |
| Wilson Lacrosse Club | Reading YMCA NTL Swim Team | |
| Lebanon County Habitat for Humanity | Kingfish Water Polo |
